Terms and Conditions of TOUR Guide of the Year 2024

A. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE COMPETITION:
To be eligible for the competition, candidates must meet the following criteria:
• Registration and payment confirmation on MNRT Portal
• Minimum qualification from a recognized tour guide training school
• Minimum of five years of guiding experience
• Currently employed, resident, or working as a freelance guide

B. EVALUATION CRITERIA FOR FINALISTS:
The finalists will be assessed and judged based on the following criteria:
• Mastery of game drives
• Track identification and interpretation skills
• Proficiency in conducting walking safaris
• Ability to effectively sell destinations
• Birding skills
• Storytelling abilities
• Proficiency in solving skull puzzles
• Hosting and hospitality skills

C. APPROVAL FROM EMPLOYER OR GUARDIAN:
Any nominated candidate must obtain a letter from their employer, guardian or Head Guide confirming the following:
• Agreement with the nomination and permission to attend the initial knowledge assessment and interview at a venue to be announced later, from December 10th, 2023, to February 28th, 2024.

• Agreement to allow attendance for the 14-day Safari/ Mountain Field Challenge at the designated National Park for the final practical assessments, scheduled for April 5th to 20th, 2024, if the candidate reaches the final round.

• Agreement to participate in PR and Marketing opportunities approved by the foundation, TANAPA, NCAA, and the host venue, if selected as a finalist or winner.
• Willingness to serve as a Brand Ambassador for Safari Guide of the Year for a 12-month period and engage in all Marketing and PR duties, including episodes on Azam Tv.

D. FINALISTS:
Any nominated candidate who reaches the final round of six candidates must:
• Arrange their own transportation to the starting point in Arusha for the final field challenge.
• Consent to being filmed and interviewed by Azam Tv crew for promotional and educational purposes. • Provide their own binoculars, relevant guiding books, and any other equipment they may require for their guided experiences. An open vehicle will be provided.

E. NOMINATION DEADLINE:
All nominations must be submitted by November 10th, 2023, to the Chief Judge at tourguideawards@gmail.com or nominations@tourguideawards.org. Full competition details will be provided to all final candidates.

F. FIELD CHALLENGE DATES:
The final field challenge will take place from April 5th to 20th, 2024.
